ADVANCED TRAINING PROGRAM
IN TOYOHARI
© MERIDIAN THERAPY

Sponsored by the Toyohari© Association of North America (TANA)

This program is the first of its kind in North America. It has been designed to further develop the academic and clinical skills of participants (registered Toyohari© members). It will be funded exclusively by the fees charged and is not subsidized by TANA membership fees. This program will include an eleven day training spread over 14 months with U.S. and European resident study guides. Completion of this program will result in a certificate as a Registered Toyohari© Academic Practitioner. Everyone will participate equally in their own development through a process of group study, supported by peers.

This program is only available to Toyohari© Association members that completed their basic Toyohari© training by at least two years prior (i.e., 2005). Applicants must also be able to document active participation in the Association through their committed attendance in formal branch study group sessions, informal local study sessions, formal TANA sponsored training programs, Japan (or European or Australasian) trainings and working for TANA through local branch activities, etc. Candidates will be selected through a selection process that will weigh these various factors (including years of membership).

Study guides will include Junko Ida, Ned Holle and Brenda Loew.

The primary goals of this advanced training program are:

1) To help raise the skills, standards and confidence of the Toyohari© practitioner

2) To develop more comprehensively trained practitioners and potential future instructors of the Toyohari© system

CONTENT OF THE PROGRAM: In order to make available more detailed study through presentations, instruction and practice with feedback, the following activities will be included:

1) Writing up and then presenting to the group at least two case study reports (receiving feedback from the study guides and the rest of the group).

2) Researching and then writing up and reporting on a major study theme to the group. (Topics to be approved by the study guides with assistance from Stephen Birch, Ph.D.) [Note: Participants should come to the first weekend with some idea about their study project and must submit a more specific proposal by the second weekend.]

3) Oral and written presentations on assigned topics to the group (receiving feedback from the study guides and the rest of the group). The assigned topics will include reviews of the foundational Toyohari© program curriculum following major basic themes: theory; pulse diagnosis; four examinations; selection of Sho; point location; needling techniques; and supportive treatments. A schedule of presentations will be prepared so that all participants make an equal number of presentations.

4) Practice sessions focusing on: pulse diagnosis; four examinations; selection of Sho; point location; needling techniques; supportive treatments.

5) Kozato-style treatment practice sessions.

6) Presentation of translated articles and discussions from the Keiraku Shinryo (Toyohari© journal).

7) Presentation and discussion of important passages/chapters from the Classics (eg., Nei Jing and/or Nan Jing).

8) Possible lectures on what it is to be a teacher of Toyohari© and how to do research within the Toyohari© framework.

If any particular areas are identified that are in need of improvement, each participant will be given additional assignments related to those areas. This will include everything from knowledge of theory, presentation skills, moxa skills, needling skills, diagnostic skills, treatment skills, etc.

STRUCTURE OF THE PROGRAM: There will be three 3 day weekends and one final 2 day weekend stretched over 14 months. (One of the weekends (#2) will include Junko Ida from the European Branch of the Toyohari Association (EBTA).)
